Dalyan

DALYAN is a perfect holiday destination for young and old, offering history, culture, wildlife, stunning scenery and deserted beaches and coves. It is an excellent base to explore the regions many attractions. A newly completed golf course at Sarigerme only 12 miles away is an interesting addition but for me the greatest appeal is this unspoiled region. After the protests of David Belamy, Greenpeace, Sting, Dustin Hoffman and others the Turkish government have made the area a Nature reserve and it has subsequently been made a World Heritage Centre. The Beach has been ranked by The Independent newspaper as No6. in its Top Ten Beaches of the world. It is highly rated by The Times newspaper and the Dutch people have recently voted it No1 beach in the world

To The Beach

DALYAN nestles under the mountains, on the banks of the river Calbis with, at one end Turtle and Izuzu Beaches and at the other end the Koycegiz lake.

Cycling is my preferred method of travel around the town. However the 26 miles around the Lake or in the other direction over the mountain, via the road to the beach is certainly not recommended in the summer time.

Dalyan is surrounded by mountains. The local "Ramblers Association" meet for Sunday walks in the wintertime. They can be approached to organise walks at anytime of year for a number of groups and at any time of the week. Already the area has been host to The Sedgemoor Ramblers from the UK and other groups are also relishing the challenges. "Kaunos Tours" near the turtle statue on the roundabout can also arrange some long distance cycling and trekking activities.
